Countdown to Busso

For many people the iconic Busselton Half Ironman is the culmination of 6 months training, and their very first event at 70.3 distance. For others it is the stepping stone for qualification to the 70.3 World Championships in South Africa later in the year.

Whatever your motivation or goal, this fantastic event right in the midst of Bindi territory, is one that is very close to our hearts. We love the electric atmosphere. The nerves, the expectations, the last-minute rituals undertaken to secure luck for your race.

Over the last five years, we have seen course records broken, new mums achieving personal bests, and good mates crossing the line together.

“All age ranges and all body types. All with one goal: to cross that finish line!”

It’s a weekend that brings thousands of people flocking to the coastal town of Busselton, the home of Bindi Nutrition.

With that in mind, we thought we’d give you a list of Bindi’s top 5 favourite places to visit in Busselton.

The jetty is impressively long and the Goose bar and restaurant is super popular, but here are the secret places the locals love:

  1. Fat Duck Cycles: coffee and bikes, what more could you need? Offering a great range of bikes, clothing and accessories this fab place also offers the perfect post-ride coffee and snack in the heart of town. Best of all, they make smoothies with Bindi protein – yesssss!
  2. Jetty train: this takes you to the underwater observatory at the end of the 1.6km long jetty and saves your legs for your race. The observatory will let you see some amazing underwater life/fish/coral before you swim in it (hopefully, no sharks!)
  3. Geographe Leisure Centre: the pool here is great for a last-minute pre-race swim or selfie with a pro if you’re lucky – I caught up with Terrenzo there last year ?. It also has a great gym to use before the race, or for family/friends travelling with you.
  4. Forest Adventures http://www.forestadventures.com.au/ this place is brilliant – especially if you are travelling with kids and want to entertain them for a couple of hours on this climbing/adventure course.  Even better, it’s on the bike course of the race! You can drive out and familiarise yourself with the bike leg, and keep the kids happy at the same time. Use the code BINDI for 10% off in race week!
  5. The Good Egg Café https://thegoodeggcafe.com.au/ You can’t go past this place for clean eating options!!! Delicious and nutritious it is my fave place to grab a bite to eat. It has an upstairs work hub so if you are like me and combine travel/racing/work then it is the perfect spot to head for a quiet moment.

And of course, if you’re coming down to Busso for the race, be sure to pop your head into our tent and say hi to the Bindi crew! We are celebrating our 5th birthday and would love to share the party with you!

Enjoy your race week!
