Ava Rodgers

Hi I'm Ava Gidget I'm a junior athlete who loves a range of sports including triathlons, cross country, middle distance running, swimming and netball. I live in Perth, Western Australia.

Achievements

In 2021 I had a great year – I qualified for two state teams in cross country and aquathlon. I was also awarded the Endeavour award at the UWA little aths club for dedication and commitment to training. 2022 has already started well with a bronze medal in the U12 800m State Little Athletics Championships. I have also been selected in the Perth Netball Assoc representative team. And I qualified and competed at the Long Course Swimming Championships in the 50m freestyle. A key goal is to be selected in the 2022 Triathlon WA development squad.

What Inspires You

My running and swimming coaches inspire me. I love understanding what I could do better. I follow so many amazing girls and women around the world in sport - it's hard to choose just one that inspires me. I want to encourage young girls to keep doing sport because so many start to drop out at my age. It’s not all about winning – for me I just love the feeling I get after doing something hard. I just did a speech on it at my school and the benefits of staying in sport and how that positively impacts your future career.

Big Goals

I would like to represent Australia in triathlons and middle distance running.

Nutrition Tips

If I have a big race on - the days prior I need to drink more to ensure I am fully hydrated and get some great sleep.
